Note: I'm trying a new style tell me if you prefer it
City of Bones (The Mortal Instruments, #1)
Cover Rating: 3/5 stars
Overall Rating: 5/5 stars
Synopsis: "When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder -- much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Then the body disappears into thin air. It's hard to call the police when the murderers are invisible to everyone else and when there is nothing -- not even a smear of blood -- to show that a boy has died. Or was he a boy? This is Clary's first meeting with the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. It's also her first encounter with Jace, a Shadowhunter who looks a little like an angel and acts a lot like a jerk. Within twenty-four hours Clary is pulled into Jace's world with a vengeance, when her mother disappears and Clary herself is attacked by a demon. But why would demons be interested in ordinary mundanes like Clary and her mother? And how did Clary suddenly get the Sight? The Shadowhunters would like to know. . . . "

Cassandra Clare has done it again! I started City Of Bones knowing there was no way it would be better than The Infernal Devices, I was right, but it was very close. City Of Bones is set in modern times whereas The Infernal Devices was set in the reign of Queen Victoria but strangely enough I prefer that to modern. City Of Bones had some characters I recognized from TID -  I know what your thinking 'how could the characters still be alive after all that time?' Well Magnus Bane can because he's cool like that. Lucky for me because I love Magnus - but then who doesn't. As well as familiar characters there are also familiar families. Like the Lightwood's, Alec and Isabelle Lightwood are decedents of Gabriel and Gideon. I loved recognizing the names, not that I'm sad or anything!

The characters in COB really reminded me of the ones from TID. Isabelle - a less evil Jessamine, Jace - a not as awesome Will and Clary - a slightly annoying Tessa. I haven't found anyone to compare Alec to but I'm leaning towards Gabriel. I really enjoyed this book and I've ordered book 2 - should arrive next week courtesy of Amazon. I loved Jace he was just an awesome character and he had the boyish arrogance that I love so much in Will. I was sad not to see any Carstairs' because my hope for Jem is fading. There was a love triangle of course from Cassandra Clare the queen of love triangles. I'm not loving the Simon (Clary's best friend) / Jace / Clary one that you just know is coming as much as the Tessa/ Jem/ Will one. I would recommend this to everyone and I will give City Of Bones 5/5 stars.

My favorite quote:
"Have you fallen in love with the wrong person yet?'
Jace said, "Unfortunately, Lady of the Haven, my one true love remains myself."
..."At least," she said, "you don't have to worry about rejection, Jace Wayland."
"Not necessarily. I turn myself down occasionally, just to keep it interesting."

i like the new style - gives a good range of info and very organised - but the main review bit stays with your usual style, so all round hit :)

Are you doing song on Sunday today?

Hey, this is Hayley from the goodreads 'Books, blogs and more' group... I see you've read the City of Bones at last (well, I only read it a week ago so that's kind of hypocritical) and I completely agree with you...City of Bones just isn't as good as Infernal Devices, though it is close... plus a series to read while waiting for the next Infernal Devices series to come out! I'll be following you from now on (since I hadn't realised that you had a blog before hand) :D
