Undead
Cover Rating: 0/5
Overall Rating: 2/5
Synopsis: "Being new at school bites. But at least it doesn't kill you. Mostly. Bobby thinks she might well be on the School Trip from Hell. Looks like she's going to be on this school bus for a quite a while; could things get much worse? Yep. They could. Inexplicably, her classmates start dying...and then they come back to life again...and what's more, they're very, very hungry. With nowhere to run and no contact with the outside world, Bobby is thrown together with a raggle-taggle group of survivors at a roadside café. There's indie kid drop-out Smitty, the class beauty queen Alice, dweeby Pete and two near useless adults: a half-conscious bus driver and a volatile petrol station attendant. The frenemies struggle to stay alive - through explosions, deadly battles and a breakneck chase through the snowbound wilderness. Somehow they have to make it to safety - and get some answers - no matter what the cost. Can they survive the Undead? And each other?"

I didn't like this book, I knew I wasn't going to. I was given it by a friend so I thought I would give it a fair chance. I'm not keen on zombie books, I've only ever read one book that I liked that fit into that category. Undead is set in England but most of the language they used I knew no one in England would use an example being 'dweeb', I have never used that word and I've never heard it used. I felt the writing in Undead wasn't very mature but that may have been the point. The characters were very flat and most didn't have constant personality's. The main character Bobby annoyed me because she didn't seem to have any original thoughts, all of her thoughts were mostly repeating others, thinking about the main guy and hating the others. The only character I found slightly bearable was Smitty - yes his name annoyed me too - and he was only bearable because he made fun of the other characters I hated.

The whole situation was in no way believable. All the kids on the coach are turned into zombies from drinking carrot juice. Why would every person drink it? If you offered carrot juice to a group of teenagers my bet would be not one of them would drink it. It's vegetables blended into a juice, ew. Another thing that made it less believable is the girl, Alice, comes out of the bathroom and everyone's dead sure she cries but for what 5 minutes? The others don't seem to care at all and Pete is a psychopath who was happy to see their whole class dead. Why did everyone then insist on trying to save him? I would recommend this book to people who enjoy zombie books and I would say guys more than girls but that's just my opinion. I would give Undead 2/5 stars and that's generous.

My favorite quote
“I open my eyes and blow a straggle of hair out of my face. Not my hair, Smitty's. His head is buried in the crook of my neck and he's out cold. He uses raspberry shampoo? What a big girl.”

Destined By P.C. And Kristen Cast

Saturday, 10 March 2012

Hello everyone, It's the review that you've all been waiting for, Destined! Okay maybe I've been a little harsh on this book, it has rubbish characters and embarrassing dialogue but it has an alright storyline.

Destined follows straight on from Awakened so Rephaim who was previously a Raven-mocker has been given human form except from the fact he turns into a raven in the daytime. All Rephaim has to do is stay on the Goddess's side but that's easier said than done since his father, Kalona, is on the dark side. But could Kalona actually be that bad? He did release Rephaim, but then again he did kill Heath! Speaking of Heath I won't be spoiling anything for you to say he's been brought back as Aurox. I don't know if we were supposed to know that straight away but everyone I know opened the book and knew straight away, I mean they could have made it a little less obvious! Sorry I'm ranting. So... will Zoey ever be safe? (Lets hope not). Here's the synopsis:

"In Destined, the forces of Light and Dark collide as their epic struggle focuses on Tulsa's House of Night. Zoey is home where she belongs, safe with her Guardian Warrior, Stark, by her side and preparing to face off against Neferet. Kalona has released his hold on Rephaim, and, through Nyx's gift of a human form, he and Stevie Rae are finally able to be together if Rephaim can truly walk the path of the Goddess and stay free of his father's shadow.  But is Zoey really safe? Does she truly know those who are closest to her? And will love win when it is tested by the very soul of Darkness? Find out what is destined in the next thrilling chapter of the House of Night series."

It took me absolutely ages to finish this book and when I did finish it there wasn't a proper ending. No, want to know what it said? It said 'The End. For Now...'. I mean WHY??? Anyway I won't go into the annoyingness of the characters or the overuse of the word super or the use of the word Awesomesauce at least five times in one page. Oh and there's the constant refrences to Glee, True-Blood and Harry Potter like their advertising in the book! The only character I actually like is Aphrodite, Stark's okay (and I used to like Jack and Heath but we all know how that ended). One good thing about this book is that Shaunee -you know the girl who calls her self Erin's twin- actually stopped being Twin. She thought for herself for once! Anyway... I will just cut right to it, this book is getting 2/5 stars and that's genorous! So will I be reading the next book? Definitely!

Pretty Little Liars By Sara Shepard

Sunday, 26 February 2012

Hello everyone, I really don't know why I read this book. I love the TV series of it and I knew the book would be a disappointment. Nonetheless I read it. Pretty Little Liars follows Aria, Spencer, Hanna and Emily's lives after the disappearance of their best friend Alison. All of the girls are grief-stricken but underneath the grief there's relief. Alison no longer controlled their lives or that's what they thought. Each of them has a secret that no one knows. No one but Alison that is but three years after her disappearance could Alison really be alive? That's what it seems like when each girl begins to receive anonymous messages about their secrets. All signed A. But who is A? Alison is still controlling there lives when she's not even there.
Here's the synopsis:

"Three years ago, Alison disappeared after a slumber party, not to be seen since. Her friends at the elite Pennsylvania school mourned her, but they also breathed secret sighs of relief. Each of them guarded a secret that only Alison had known. Now they have other dirty little secrets, secrets that could sink them in their gossip-hungry world. When each of them begins receiving anonymous emails and text messages, panic sets in. Are they being betrayed by some one in their circle? Worse yet: Is Alison back? A strong launch for a suspenseful series"

This book was a disappointment. Even for my low expectation. The problem with Pretty Little Liars is it has an awesome storyline but I don't think it is executed very well. I found this book very predictable which may be because I've watched the series or it could be that it's just a predictable book. I don't really like the characters, I feel that the are not very well developed and kinda annoying. I much prefer the TV series of this as with Vampire Diaries and The Secret Circle. The only thing that kept me reading was the need to know who A was but apparently you still don't know in book 10. It's not likely that I will keep reading this series but you never know. Curiosity may get the better of me. I would give this book 2/5 stars. I don't think I would recommend it but I do recommend the TV series!

The Vampire Diaries, The Hunters: Phantom By L.J. Smith

Tuesday, 24 January 2012

Hello everyone, I had finished this book about four weeks ago but I have been way to busy to write a review. This is the eighth book in the Vampire Diaries series and the first in the hunters sub series. When I first started The Vampire Diaries series I really loved it but after I watched the TV series, the books always seemed boring to me. To tell you the truth I wasn't really looking forward to reading the series but I was curious how they would handle the new sub series, that and I hate giving up on a series. Here is the synopsis:

"Since meeting the irresistible vampire brothers Stefan and Damon Salvatore, Elena Gilbert has been to hell and back. Now that she and her friends have saved their hometown from a demonic spirit, everything can finally go back to normal. But Elena should know better than anyone that Fell’s Church will never be normal. In Phantom, a dangerous new threat sets its sights on Elena. And this time she can only count on one Salvatore brother to protect her."

I didn't have very high expectations for this book. I only read it for the sake of reading it but I was disappointed by this book. At the start I thought it would be OK, it had the basis of a great storyline. It involved names appearing and when the appeared the person would have a something happen to them that could kill them. I know that I'm being a bit vague but I don't want to give too much away. L.J. Smith's style of writing is a bit old fashioned for my liking which is understandable as the first Vampire Diaries book was published in 1991. That's 20 years ago so you can understand why the are a little old fashioned but I think she could have updated them a bit. I would recommend this book to people who don't mind a less modern take on the world of vampires. I would rate this book as 2/5 stars. I hope you enjoyed my review.

My favorite quote:
This was hard to pick as none really stood out to me.

"Damon gave her an almost shy smile—which was funny, because Damon didn't do shy—and shrugged. “Well, princess? You wanted me to be here with you, didn't you?”
As if a rubber band holding her back had snapped, Elena leaped out of bed and hurtled into Damon’s arms."
