Black Dawn (The Morganville Vampires, #12)
Cover Rating: 4/5 Stars

Overall Rating: 4.5/5 Stars

Synopsis: With its eclectic mix of vampire and human citizens, Morganville, Texas, has always been a risky place to call home. But with the invasion of the vampire’s deadliest enemy, Morganville isn’t just in danger—it’s dying…

Ever since the draug—mysterious creatures that prey on vampires—took over Morganville, the lives of student Claire Danvers and her friends have been thrown into turmoil. Most of the town’s residents have evacuated, but Claire, Shane, Eve and Michael have chosen to stay and fight.
Using the city’s water system to spread, the draug have rapidly multiplied. Things in Morganville look grim, especially since vampire Amelie—the town founder—has been infected by the master draug’s bite.
Now, if Claire and her friends don’t figure out how to cure Amelie and defeat the draug, it looks like Morganville will become little more than a ghost town…

I've been desperate to read this book since finishing Last Breath a few months ago. I have loved the Morganville series which is good since I'm on book 12. You'd think that it would get old eventually (like House Of Night) but Morganville never has. I love the uniqueness of their Vampire society, Caine makes her vamps different without going over the top (Discoball vamps anyone?). Usually in Vampire books you have vampires living in a town but most people don't know they're there. Well I love how in Morganville they do know about them. Which call for badass residents who carry stakes in their pockets and holy water in their flasks. Vampire's are top of the food chain so their are a couple of rules to help humans, like Vampires having to have a hunting licence. Well in a town full of them it can't be too hard. In Last Breath we found out that the Vampires are in fact not the top of the food chain after all. Enter the Draug. The draug are creatures that live in the water and can tempt humans and vampires alike with their singing. Their not the problem though, the problem is the master Draug. He brings shame to the name Magnus! How do you kill him? You don't.

The Morganville residents are as awesome as ever. Claire has never been my favorite - and still isn't - but I do like her character. She is no longer the mousy brainiac that first came to Morganville eleven books ago but a new and improved Claire. She's still smart but she's more feisty and that I like. Eve I love. She's goth but a really nice one. Plus she's brave and carry's round a vampire survival kit. Awesome or what? Michael is your typical rockstar; hot, talented but so nice! Did I mention he's a vampire? Shane, well who doesn't love him? I admit his anger gets the better of him sometimes but still, he's so sweet and loves Claire. Shane had a hard life which still haunts him and I'm a sucker for a guy with a tortured soul (Will, Jace, Patch, I could go on forever...). Myrnin, well he's a mad vampire scientist who has a soft spot for Claire, totally sweet but I did get angry with him a few times. Bob is Myrnin's pet spider and I think he may be my favorite spider ever! I hate spiders so it's not an achievement but still.

Overall I loved this book as I did the rest of the series. I had minor issues concerning the changing of point of view. I do like seeing the other characters POV's but I do prefer authors to stick to one. Shane's POV always makes me worried for his sanity! I wish we could have some of Myrnin's point of view though. Then again we may not want to know what he's thinking as his sanity has been and gone. I would reccomend this book to Rachel Caine and Vampire lovers. Even if you don't like vampire books you could like this one, as there are no sparkly stalkers (Sorry Edward!). I would give this book 5/5 Stars because although it's slow in parts I still loved it.

My Favorite Quote (Lucky you get 2):
“Shane: "Bro," he said, in an injured tone, "I had to go out with a flamethrower, and you weren't there to see it."
Michael: "Pics or it didn't happen."
Shane: "Dude, little busy for pics. You know, throwing flame."
----
“Myrnin was silent for a beat, and then he said, “Bob would be very disappointed in you.”
“Bob the spider?”
“He looks at you like a mother, you know. I’m surprised at your lack of work ethic. Think of the example you set for—”
She hung up on him and turned the phone on vibrate and relaxed in Shane’s arms.

In My Mailbox #2

Saturday, 12 May 2012

Today I actually managed to get into town to get some new books! Most of which I've been waiting to read for ages. In My Mailbox is hosted over at The Story Siren. Here's what I got today.

Divergent I have been waiting forever to read, it kinda feels like I'm the last to read it. I've heard raving reviews about this one and I really want to know what faction I'm most suited too. Everyone's been going on about theirs and I want one!
City Of Glass I know I'm going to love because I have the rest, I love anything by Cassandra Clare. I'm looking forward to seeing more Jace, Magnus and Alec.
Black Dawn will be awesome because Rachel Caine never disappoints. I am a Morganville obsessive so it's only right that I buy this book a few days after it's release.
Wicked Lovely 1-3 These weren't at the top of my to-read list. Quite near the bottom really but these books were three for a fiver and who can resist an offer like that?

So what did you get this week?

Wednesday, 21 March 2012

Hey everyone, very short post here and about The Golden Lily again - hopefully your as excited for it as I am and not getting annoyed at my constant posts. The first chapter has been released! I just read it and It was SO good. It should tide you over until the book comes out in June. Less than three months but still way too long!! Anyway without further ado, to read it click here. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. Remember that last dramatic sentance in Bloodlines?

And we have the first two chapters of Black Dawn by Rachel Caine. Another book I am totally excited for! Black Dawn comes out a bit sooner than The Golden Lily; It comes out on the first of May. A little over a month! Anyone who read Last Breath will know just how epic - and I don't use that word very often - it was. So to read the first two chapters go here.

And read my reviews of Last Breath and Bloodlines!!

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating. This is my first time doing it, I'm looking forward to SO many books so it was highly difficult to decide on the book but alas I made my decision. My book is...Morganville: Black Dawn by Rachel Caine. To be released May 1st 2012. I couldn't decide which cover to use so you get both! BEWARE! Do not read this summary if you have not yet read Last Breath.
"Ever since the draug—mysterious creatures that prey on vampires — took over Morganville, the lives of student Claire Danvers and her friends have been thrown into turmoil. Using the city’s water system to spread, the draug have rapidly multiplied and vampire Amelie — the town founder — has been infected by the master draug’s bite. Now, unless Claire and her friends figure out how to cure Amelie and defeat the draug, Morganville will become little more than a ghost town…"
