Torment By Lauren Kate

Wednesday, 28 March 2012

I feel guilty for letting my blog get over run by meme's so I thought I will cut some, but now I can't decide which ones to cut so I'd appreciate people to tell me which one they like least and I will cut the one with the majority of votes.

For now I am reviewing a book I read in January and for some reason forgot to review it. Torment is the second in the Fallen series (see Beka's review of Fallen) so it may contain spoilers for Fallen. I was very excited to read it but the moment I opened the book I remembered I didn't even like Fallen that much so I have no idea why I wanted to read this but I did. Torment is set literally minutes after Fallen ended- you know the big fight scene which I still don't know what the point of it was - so Luce has to spend some time away from Daniel hidden in a boarding school for Nephilim where she begins to learn about the shadows that have haunted her for her entire life. She realizes that Daniel - the guy she's been in love with for all of a day - may be hiding something from her about her other lives.

"Hell on earth.

That’s what it’s like for Luce to be apart from her fallen angel boyfriend, Daniel.
It took them an eternity to find one another, but now he has told her he must go away. Just long enough to hunt down the Outcasts—immortals who want to kill Luce. Daniel hides Luce at Shoreline, a school on the rocky California coast with unusually gifted students: Nephilim, the offspring of fallen angels and humans.
At Shoreline, Luce learns what the Shadows are, and how she can use them as windows to her previous lives. Yet the more Luce learns, the more she suspects that Daniel hasn't told her everything. He’s hiding something—something dangerous.
What if Daniel’s version of the past isn’t actually true? What if Luce is really meant to be with someone else? "

I thought this book was worse than the first but it wasn't the most horrible book I've ever read. If you look past the annoying heroine, the clingy over protective angel and the pointless fights it's actually an okay book. Daniel I hated in the first and now even more, the same goes for Luce. The one character who I actually like is Cam, the evil guy. Yes good guys are so overrated nowadays. There were a few new characters including Shelby- a girl with anger issues and Miles- he was okay. I am being forced by a friend to read the third book 'Passion' because apparently it gets better. That doesn't seem likely but you never know. I would give Torment 2/5 stars (I may come back and change this later because it seems a bit harsh!)

Guest Review By Beka: Fallen By Lauren Kate

Saturday, 3 March 2012

Hello everyone, I've posted this previously but it went strange so I had to post it again, so here it is:
As I'm seriously encouraging you to read this book I'm not going to give away any spoilers... Well not many at least ;)

When I first began to read this book I must admit it dragged a little, it took me quite a while to get into the story, not because it didn't grab my attention because it did, I just found I little confusing but it's just one of those books you have to power through to get to the really good part!

The outline of the storyline (as found on the blurb so no spoilers!) is about Luce and Daniel, the two main characters, who are both reincarnated souls who have been draw together by true love even over many different lives. (If at this moment your one of those people who find the whole reincarnation fiasco a little unbelievable or cliqué I urge you to give this book a chance as reincarnation is most definitely not the main focus of the book!) this love story follows Luce on her journey to find the truth about her past and decide whether Daniel will become her Future...

I would also like to inform you of the theme of angels, yes angels! Not in the whole angel Gabriel went to Mary type of thing but definitely interpretation the whole good verses evil theme... As the blurb (which I will now add for those who aren't quite interested enough to be bothered to Google it!) states:

"Some angels are destined to fall. Instant. Intense. Weirdly familiar... The moment Luce sees Daniel she knows she's never felt this way before. Except she can't shake the feeling she has... And with him - the boy she doesn't remember setting eyes on. Will her attempt to find out why enlighten her - or destroy her?"

Oooo!! Anyone interested yet? Well if not I haven't done my job very well but I must say its not going to be everyone's cup of tea. And for those who will give it a try just for me ;) I am glad to inform you of two sequel books (and a third in spring 2012) which I must add are much more enlightening henceforth increasing the already intense amazingness of this series (and yes I do realise "amazingness" isn't a real word!) so I urge you give it a go and who knows you may just find a new #1 book!!

4 out of 5 stars for me but I'd love some feedback (negative or positive) so get reading!!
Beka x
