Bloodfever (Fever, #2)
Cover Rating: 3/5 Stars
Overall Rating: 3.5/5 Stars
Synopsis: "I used to be your average, everyday girl but all that changed one night in Dublin when I saw my first Fae, and got dragged into a world of deadly immortals and ancient secrets...
In her fight to stay alive, MacKayla must find the Sinsar Dubh—a million-year-old book of the blackest magic imaginable, which holds the key to power over the worlds of both the Fae and Man. Pursued by assassins, surrounded by mysterious figures she knows she can’t trust, Mac finds herself torn between two deadly and powerful men: V’lane, the immortal Fae Prince, and  the ever-inscrutable Jericho Barrons, a man as irresistible as he is dangerous. For centuries the shadowy realm of the Fae has coexisted with that of humans. Now the walls between the two are coming down, and Mac is the only thing that stands between them."

I started the Fever series with HUGE expectations, everyone is always going on about it and I wanted to know more about this Barrons person everyone is talking about. Well I read the first book and thought it was good but not amazing so I looked at some reviews all of them saying to keep reading because it gets better. So I had huge expectations for the second book and once again it has disappointed me. Not massively because it was a good book but I am still yet to see what all the fuss is about. Third book lucky? Hopefully. In my last review I said I hated V'lane, I now sorta like him. I don't know why and I don't want to like him but I do. Barrons on the other hand is kinda annoying me, he I want to like. He seems to scary and he bosses Mac around to much. He actually grounded her! Also anyone who has read this; is it just me or has MacKayla NEVER seen Barrons during the day? He always appears at night. I don't know what he is but I think that is crucial to it. I would give you my theory but it may be seen as a spoiler. MacKayla is back to annoying me again because of the stupidity of the things she does. I think she is too weak a character because she lets Barrons get away with way to much and does the opposite of everything he says if it's keeping her safe and if it's a stupid request she will do it.

I don't mean to turn this into a rant because I do like it but characters who act like Barbies must annoy more people than just me. I think the plot didn't really go anywhere in this book but it wasn't really very slow. Everyone is head-over-heels in love with Barrons so I'm hoping the next book lets him redeem himself and the plot gets more interesting. As for Mac and Barrons, it's obvious they are going to get together so I wish they would instead of denying it. It will happen! I would recommend this book to Adult Paranormal Romance lovers. I would give this book 3.5 stars and I am looking forward to the next book.

My Favorite Quote:
“Burns from dropped matches, Ms. Lane? Matches one might have dropped while flirting with a pernicious Fae, Ms. Lane? Have you any idea the value of this rug?”
I didn’t think his nostrils could flare any wider. His eyes were black flame. “Pernicious? Good grief, is English your second language? Third?” Only someone who’d learned English from a dictionary would use such a word.
“Fifth,” he snarled. “Answer me.”

Darkfever By Karen Marie Moning

Friday, 2 March 2012

Hello everyone, as you know YA is one of my favorite genre's but recently I've been reading quite a few adult books. Darkfever was one of those books. I'd heard loads of positive reviews for this book so I thought I'd check it out although I did put it off for a while, I don't know why but I just had no urge to read it. It was actually really good though. Darkfever is told by MacKayla Lane, I found the way it's written quite strange because it actually speaks to the reader. That may not make sense but what I mean is that it says things like "I know what your thinking" and "I wont bore you with the details" as if it were a diary. This really annoyed me at first but I got over it. Anyway after MacKayla's sister is murdered she goes to Ireland to track down her killer but what she finds instead changes everything. The only thing she has to go on is a confusing message she received from her sister hours before she was killed. MacKayla has no one to help her, no one would believe her, that is accept the mysterious Barrons. But can she trust him?
Here's the synopsis:

"MacKayla Lane’s life is good. She has great friends, a decent job, and a car that breaks down only every other week or so. In other words, she’s your perfectly ordinary twenty-first-century woman. Or so she thinks…until something extraordinary happens. When her sister is murdered, leaving a single clue to her death–a cryptic message on Mac’s cell phone–Mac journeys to Ireland in search of answers. The quest to find her sister’s killer draws her into a shadowy realm where nothing is as it seems, where good and evil wear the same treacherously seductive mask. She is soon faced with an even greater challenge: staying alive long enough to learn how to handle a power she had no idea she possessed–a gift that allows her to see beyond the world of man, into the dangerous realm of the Fae… As Mac delves deeper into the mystery of her sister’s death, her every move is shadowed by the dark, mysterious Jericho, a man with no past and only mockery for a future. As she begins to close in on the truth, the ruthless V'lane closes in on her. And as the boundary between worlds begins to crumble, Mac’s true mission becomes clear: find the elusive Sinsar Dubh before someone else claims the all-powerful Dark Book–because whoever gets to it first holds nothing less than complete control of the very fabric of both worlds in their hands…."

I really enjoyed this book, I found the storyline really intriguing. The characters were OK but I don't love any of them just yet. MacKayla is an interesting character. I really didn't like her at first. She was as Barrons quite rightly described her a 'Barbie Doll'. Only caring about her hair and her clothes but I think as the book went on she became a more likable character. Barrons I found kinda freaky but sometime in the book he does paint MacKayla's nails for her and that made such a hilarious image in my head that I warmed to him. I think he was my favorite character in the book. One character that I hated was V'lane. For one thing what's up with his first name literally being MacKayla's last name? Oh and there's also the problem of... no I think that may be a spoiler you will have to find out yourself but be warned, it's not pleasent. I would give this book 3.5/5 stars but I will definitely be reading the next one. As this is an adult book I would recommend it to... well adults. I don't yet know why there was such a hype about this book but I hope I find out in later books.

My Favorite Quote:
“Last night you said you wanted to know what to expect so you could better select your attire. I told you we were going to visit a vampire in a Goth-den tonight. Why, then, Ms. Lane, do you look like a perky rainbow?” - Barrons
