BLOODLINES: THE GOLDEN LILY NEWS!

Wednesday, 21 December 2011

I'm sure as that you, as I am are eagerly awaiting the release of Richelle Mead's The Golden Lily. It is the second in the vampire academy spin off series Bloodlines. If you have read Bloodlines the like me you will understand when I say the last line of the book made me throw the book halfway across the room out of frustration. I loved that book but the huge cliff hanger was just SO unfair! I suppose it did make me a lot more excited for The Golden Lily though.

Anyway the synopsis, release date and some comments from Richelle Mead herself about The Golden Lily has been released (yay!). So if you haven't read Bloodlines then I suggest you don't read any further, and if you do it's your own fault if you find out something before you read it. Don't say I didn't warn you! Here's the synopsis:

“Tough, brainy alchemist Sydney Sage and doe-eyed Moroi princess Jill Dragomir are in hiding at a human boarding school in the sunny, glamorous world of Palm Springs, California. The students - children of the wealthy and powerful - carry on with their lives in blissful ignorance, while Sydney, Jill, Eddie and Adrian must do everything in their power to keep their secret safe. But with forbidden romances, unexpected spirit bonds, and the threat of Strigoi moving ever closer, hiding the truth is harder than anyone thought. Populated with new faces as well as familiar ones, Richelle Mead's breathtaking Bloodlines series explores all the friendship, romance, battles and betrayals that made the #1 New York Times bestselling Vampire Academy series so addictive. In this second book, the drama is hotter, the romances are steamier, and the stakes are even higher.”

You are probably thinking 'Those were rubbish spoilers!' and you are correct the actual spoilers are what Richelle Mead herself had to say about the unreleased Golden Lily.

"I'm still writing it, and in the past we have had major plot lines completely deleted, and so I'm like, I'd hate to tell you something that never shows up,"
(That would be disappointing)

"I can tell you Sydney will get a little romance in her life. It's probably not going to be what readers are expecting-slash-hoping for initially. That's been a lot of fun for me, writing Sydney dating."
(So in other words the Sydney/Adrian relationship is not happening- Yet anyway)

"We're going to learn a little bit more about something that was hinted at in 'Bloodlines,' about whether or not there are such things as vampire hunters in the world. They start to pick up that maybe that's not such the myth that they thought. It's going to be the usual split of an action plot going on along with various romantic entanglements."
(Dimitri will probably take the lead in the mystery investigation things - POOR ADRIAN)

"I know a lot of readers are geared up for romance, and there's plenty of that, so they can rest easy, especially as the series progresses the first one is a little light. I'm going to get some more of those."
(Interesting)

It sounds absolutely fantastic doesn't it? The Golden Lily will be released on the 1st of May 2012. I CAN'T WAIT! I would rate it 5/5 stars and I haven't even read it yet! What do you think will happen, get in touch with me with your predictions.

Last Breath (Morganville Vampires #11) By Rachel Caine

Sunday, 18 December 2011

The Morganville Vampires series has been one of my favourites for a long time. And this book upset me! No not because it was a disappointment. It was anything but that, this book was the best Morganville so far. No the thing that upset me was after reading this book I realised that there was only one left. One more book in the Morganville series! So that will be twelve books in total and it is still not enough!!!

This book followed the Glass House residents as normal but throughout the book the story was told by different characters. It was mostly Claire as usual but you also got to see things through Amelie, Eve, Michael and Shane's eyes. Sadly there was not a section told by Myrnin, that would be... interesting but undoubtedly hilarious.

There was most of the usual characters in this book including Bob Myrnin's much loved spider but there was also lots of new characters, including the mysterious Magnus. There are many things that become clear in Last Breath, like why the vampires live out in the desert and just what have they been running from all these years. With vampires disapearing it seems whatever they were running from has caught up with them. Of course there is also the drama from Eve and Michael's engagement which you just new was going to happen. But why is it such a big deal? Also after 10 books you finally get to see just how much Myrnin cares about Claire and then just what Shane would do for her. Lucky Girl! Really it IS as awesome as it sounds!

"Claire Danvers is concerned when three vampires vanish from Morganville without a trace. The last person seen with them is someone new to town - a mysterious individual named Magnus. Claire is convinced creepy Magnus isn't human ...but is he a vampire, or something else entirely? Claire's hunt for answers leads her to solving another mystery that's long been puzzling her: why do vampires live so far out in a sunny desert when they're sensitive to sunlight? The answer has nothing to do with sunlight, but with water - and an ancient enemy who has finally found a way to invade the vampires' landlocked community. Vampires aren't the top predator on earth. There's something worse that preys on them ...something much worse. Which means if Claire, and Morganville, want to live, they will have to fight on to the last breath ..."

I loved this book! It was a really great read which made me definatly want to reread the series. I would reccomend this book to paranormal romance or YA lovers. I would rate this book 5/5 stars. Yay my very rare full number and it deserves it. Go out and read this book now! RIGHT NOW! I know what your thinking "Maybe later" but no you need to read it now! I am currently reading Vampire Diaries: Phantom so I will be posting a review of that soon.

My favorite quote:
The quote I really wanted to share with you was sadly too much of a spoiler but luckily I found a hilarious one to take its place.

“No.” He took his hand out of his pocket and put his arm around her shoulders, hugging her close. “If I could be half the girl you are, I’d be—wow, I have no idea where I was going with that, and it just turned out uncomfortable, all of a sudden.”

Night World By L.J. Smith

Saturday, 10 December 2011

Hello everybody, a friend asked me to review L.J. Smith's Night World. The only thing is I forgot to ask which book, so i decided to review the first of the three. Yes I know what your thinking "Emily, there are four books not three" but i have not yet come across the fourth book "Strange Fate" so I will not be able to review it until I get it.

"Vampires, werewolves, witches, shapeshifters — they live among us without our knowledge. Night World is their secret society, a secret society with very strict rules. And falling in love breaks all the laws of the Night World."

So I will start with volume one, sorry if my review is a bit vague as I read it a while ago.  Volume one has three stories inside it, my favourite story was the first one "Secret Vampire". It is about a normal girl called Poppy who is diagnosed with terminal cancer. Her best friend James is willing to lose everything to help her so he reveals information to her that he could be executed for. To save her life he tells her he needs to turn her into a vampire, of course she doesn't believe him. I mean would you? Will Poppy realise James is telling her the truth in time to save her life? Well you will have to read it and see. If that wasn't enough info for you here is the synopsis:

"In Secret Vampire, Poppy thought the summer would last forever. Then she was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Now Poppy's only hope for survival is James, her friend and secret love. A vampire in the Night World, James can make Poppy immortal. But first they both must risk everything to go against the laws of Night World. "

Book two is called "Daughters Of Darkness" it is another favourite of mine as it has my favourite Night World character in it, Ash. Although at the beginning of this story he is portrayed as ruthless. Daughters Of Darkness follows vampire sisters Rowen, Kestral and Jade as the flee from their home to their Aunt Opal's home. They discover that their evil brother Ash has followed them to bring them home, this is until he meets Mary-Lynette... Sounds awesome right? If you need more here is the synopsis:

"Fugitives from Night World, three vampire sisters leave their isolated home to live among humans in Daughters of Darkness. Their brother, Ash, is sent to bring the girls back, but he falls in love with their beautiful friend."

Book three is "Spellbinder" it follows teenage witches Thea and Blaise. They are cousins but as close as sisters. There is just one HUGE difference between them, Thea uses white magic and Blaise uses black. Blaise uses her magic to make guys do what ever she wants them to do, even if it means harming themselves or burning down schools. But when Thea and Blaise start a new school together Thea meets Eric and falls for him. Blaise is jealous of this attention so she does what anyone like her would do, tries to steal Eric off Thea. But the events that follow will change everything. I hope I haven't given too much away there, here is the synopsis:

"Two witch cousins fight over their high school crush. It's a battle between black magic and white magic in Spellbinder."

Very short synopsis isn't it? Well I loved this book, I would advise it to Paranormal romance lovers who aren't into the really dirty scenes. The great thing about this book is it's innocence, its concept of soulmates really puts the romance back into paranormal romance. It is a really lovely book, not one of those with so many dirty jokes that it loses all romantic essence from it. I would rate this book 3/5 stars. Hope you liked this review.

My favorite quote:
"You dont love somebody because of their looks or their clothes or their cars. you love them because they sing a song that nobody but you can understand."

Noughts And Crosses By Malorie Blackman

Thursday, 8 December 2011

Hello everyone, yes yet another review. My friend (Hi) asked me to review Noughts and Crosses so I am.  Noughts and Crosses is quite a complicated and intriguing novel about a divided society. There is the Noughts and the Crosses. Sephy is a Cross, a member of the dark-skinned higher class. They can have what ever they want. Callum is a Nought, a member of the 'colourless' lower class. They have no rights.

Noughts and Crosses is a tragic story about love, loss and justice. Callum and Sephy have been best friends since they were children but what happens when that friendship turns to love? Noughts and Crosses explores the relationship between a Romeo and Juliet style couple in a world when love is unimportant. If you need more details here is the synopsis:

"Sephy is a Cross - a member of the dark-skinned ruling class. Callum is a nought - a 'colourless' member of the underclass who were once slaves to the Crosses. The two have been friends since early childhood. But that's as far as it can go. Until the first steps are taken towards more social equality and a limited number of Noughts are allowed into Cross schools...Against a background of prejudice and distrust, intensely highlighted by violent terrorist activity by Noughts, a romance builds between Sephy and Callum - a romance that is to lead both of them into terrible danger..."

I thought that Noughts and Crosses was a highly fascinating and realistic read. It highlighted some issues that still happen around our world today. It explores racism and prejudice in depth and really shows us what our world could be like today if we let it be. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes an intense read and stories about forbidden love. I would rate this book 4.5/5 stars. I hope you enjoyed my review.
My favorite quote:
"‘Just remember, Callum when you’re floating up and up in your bubble, that bubbles have a habit of bursting. The higher you climb, the further you have to fall’"

My Name Is Memory By Anne Brashares

Hello everyone, here is another book review for you to enjoy. My Name Is Memory is a novel that follows the life of Daniel, he has the gift of "Memory". Daniel has been reborn many times and his gift of "Memory" means that he can remember all of his past lives. Not many people have the gift but lots of people throughout the book are people that he has met before in other lives as other people. It all seems quite confusing but when you read the book it all becomes a lot clearer.

Daniel is alone in the world, never wanting to let go of his other lives and live his present life. All through his lives Daniel has been looking for one girl Sophia, he has found her in many lives but has never been able to stay with her, but now he has his chance he met Lucy. She is Sophia reincarnated, he would recognise her anywhere. He wants to spend his life with her but some things are out of his control. If that was not enough information for you here is the synopsis:

"Daniel has spent centuries falling in love with the same girl. Life after life, crossing continents and dynasties, he and Sophia (despite her changing name and form) have been drawn together-and he remembers it all. For all the times that he and Sophia have been connected throughout history, they have also been torn painfully, fatally, apart. But just when Sophia (now "Lucy" in the present) finally awakens to the secret of their shared past, the mysterious force that has always separated them reappears. Ultimately, they must come to understand what stands in the way of their love if they are ever to spend a lifetime together."

My Name Is Memory is a captivating and memorable read. This book is beautifully written and the characters are well thought out. It is a little bit slow at the start but it soon speeds up and gets very exciting. There are two more books in this series but they have not yet been released, I will give you more details on this when i get them. I really cannot wait for the next book to come out. I really recommend this book to romance lovers. I would rate it 4/5 stars. Please look out for more of my reviews.

My favorite quote:
“Love who you love while you have them.  That’s all you can do.  Let them go when you must.  If you know how to love, you’ll never run out”

Bloodlines By Richelle Mead

Hello everyone! Has anyone read the new Vampire Academy spin-off series? Well I have and Richelle Mead out did herself. There has been a lot of negative reactions towards this book but the majority of the people who I have talked to LOVED this book. Bloodlines give you an incite into the minds of different characters than in Vampire Academy, though there are a lot of familiar characters including Sydney, Jill, Eddie and of course Adrian Ivashkov.

In Bloodlines you get to see how Adrian copes with his recent heartbreak and the damaging effects of spirit, how Jill copes with her latest revelation that has turned her world upside-down, and how Sydney copes with the demanding world of being an Alchemist and a secret that is tearing her apart. That's a whole lot of coping. Of course some of the old main characters appear in the book including Rose, Abe and a huge shock character appearance at the end... but no I wont tell you who it is. I know I haven't told you much about what the book is about because the best part of the book is the surprise of the events. But I will add the synopsis:

"When alchemist Sydney is ordered into hiding to protect the life of Moroi princess Jill Dragomir, the last place she expects to be sent is a human private school in Palm Springs, California. But at their new school, the drama is only just beginning. Populated with new faces as well as familiar ones, Bloodlines explores all the friendship, romance, battles and betrayals that made the #1 New York Times bestselling Vampire Academy series so addictive - this time in a part-vampire, part-human setting where the stakes are even higher and everyone's out for blood."
Sounds exciting doesn't it? And I Haven't forgotten about all you Dimitri lovers out there I am afraid to tell you that Dimitri is not really in the book often but i am absolutely positive he will have a bigger part in the second book in this series. So you will just have to wait a while to get any more Dimka, but trust me I'm sure it will be the worth the wait. And in the mean time you have the dashing Adrian Ivashkov to keep you occupied, what more could you want. Two characters that do not appear in the book are Lissa and Christian, I am curious to know what is happening with them! I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who loved Vampire Academy or even if you didn't it is still worth reading. I give this book 5/5 stars. I think that you really need to go to your local library or book shop right NOW! Thanks for reading ;) Oh and please let me know if there is any books in particular that you would like me to review and I will try to get hold of them. I hope you enjoyed my review and stay tuned for more.

My favorite quote:
This was SO hard to choose, I love them all.
“But I can say you’re okay for an irreverent party boy with occasional moments of brilliance.”
“Brilliant? You think I’m brilliant?” He threw his hands skyward. “You hear that, world? Sage says I’m brilliant.”
“That’s not what I said!”
...
“Come on, Sage.
You understand how my mind works. You said I was brilliant, remember?”
Eddie glanced at me in surprise. “You did?”
“No! I never said that.” Adrian’s smile was infuriating. “Stop telling people that.”

Nightshade By Andrea Cremer

Hello everybody, this is my first book review i really hope you are enjoying them. Nightshade is the first book of three in the new Nightshade series. Nightshade follows Calla a teenage alpha Werewolf (Guardian) who is set to be the alpha male Ren's  mate to form a new pack.  The Guardians are there to protect the Keepers - an ancient race of witches- from their enemy's the Searchers, but it soon becomes evident that the Keepers are not at all what they make out to be.

But when Calla saves the mysterious Shay from death she starts to doubt everything she has ever known. Shay starts to appear everywhere and he doesn't seem to want to go away. Of course he and Calla develop feelings for each other. As always with a love triangle fans of the book choose their team... So what team are you? Team Ren or Team Shay? For Calla her pack will always come first but the events that unfold will change her life forever. If that wasn't enough Nightshade details for you here is the synopsis:

"Calla Tor has always known her destiny: After graduating from the Mountain School, she'll be the mate of sexy alpha wolf Ren Laroche and fight with him, side by side, ruling their pack and guarding sacred sites for the Keepers. But when she violates her masters' laws by saving a beautiful human boy out for a hike, Calla begins to question her fate, her existence, and the very essence of the world she has known. By following her heart, she might lose everything- including her own life. Is forbidden love worth the ultimate sacrifice?"

It sounds totally awesome doesn't it? I really liked this book although some of the characters didn't have much depth to them, I found Calla a little annoying but that is just my opinion as I hardly ever actually like the female lead. I actually really loved Ren and i am still undecided about Shay. Luckily there is still another two books after this one to make up my mind. I would rate this book at 3.5/5 stars. Yes i had to go with a really awkward number. I really recommend this book to paranormal romance lovers who like a good story line. Put it to the top of your to-read list definitely. I hope you enjoyed my review and again please inform me of any books you would like me to review.

My favorite quote:
“Ren watched us as he leaned casually against the table, holding a pair of scissors. I'd never seen a classroom tool look so dangerous.”
